Partners John and Dave have given one of Pickering’s historic icons a fresh face to welcome back old regulars and entice new patrons.  ‘The Bear’ (a Firkin restaurant) is now located at 1294 Liverpool Road in Downtown Pickering. Built in 1878 by Robert Secker, the Liverpool Arms Inn was a favourite stop for travellers on the King’s Highway, between Kingston and Toronto.  Today, The Bear pays homage to Pickering’s history as the interior features many images from Pickering’s past.

Pickering’s Nautical Village was full of sun and laughter as GrandDad’s Ole Fashion Ice Cream Parlour opened for business at 597 Liverpool Road.  The parlour is just one of many reasons to visit the Nautical Village.  Check out  the SilverStone Gallery website to find out what’s happening this summer.

A little bit of Italy, has come to Pickering.  ci gusta!, Canada's newest European franchise features specialty desserts, soft yoghurt, coffees, soups and pizza.  Located at 1105 Kingston Road in the Brookdale Plaza, this is the Canadian headquarters of ci gusta! Robert Hardt,  President and CEO of Siemens Canada, joined City officials in cutting the ribbon, officially opening the doors of a new manufacturing facility at 1865 Clements Road.  Home to Trench Ltd., this 190,000 sf plant has brought over 250 skilled manufacturing jobs to Pickering to support the production of oil insulated instrument transformers.

The Youth Education Arts and Health Foundation (YEAH) has opened its doors in Pickering, occupying approximately 3,000 sf at 1099 Kingston Road, Suite 240.  Corneliu Chisu, MP, Pickering-Scarborough East brought greetings as the foundation received over $91,000.00 from Federal Government’s the Skill Link program to help youth overcome barriers to employment. South St. Burgers welcomed guests to the Grand Opening today at 1105 Kingston Road.  South St. Burgers is part the New York Fries group of restaurants and a welcome addition to this new commercial development at Walnut Lane in Pickering.

Professors and students stood together with Pickering Civic Leaders today, to cut the official ribbon on the Pickering Learning Site.  A collaborative development between Durham and Centennial Colleges, this 9,000-square-foot facility provides post secondary continuing education to approximately 300 students. Unifund Assurance Company & Johnston Inc.:  Alex Refuse, Region VP, Central Canada assisted in cutting the ribbon for the newest offices of Unifund Assurance Company and Johnson Inc. at 1305 Pickering Parkway, Suite 800. The City of Pickering celebrated the Grand Opening of Total Tire Pickering at 1698 Bayly Street.  As the sixth location of the Total Tire family, Pickering was strategically chosen as the first site in Durham Region.
