July 12, 2014 ~ Survivor...Settler Style!

We challenge you! We've set up stations, and provided you things to use to build. The rest is up to you. You have to work in teams to problem solve your way through the challenges, and see if you have what it takes to survive as a pioneer.

July 19, 2014 ~ Making it All Work

This week's focus is all about skills and trades. We'll have demonstrations running by various "pioneer" tradesmen. And you can try your hand at some. We'll also have guest presenters representing modern trades, for a bit of a career fair. Come out and find out about work options then and now.

July 26, 2014 ~ It's Note-Worthy

It's a day of music! Discover how music played a role in the lives of our ancestors, from the early 1800s to the era of WWI. From hymns to popular songs, and from stringed instruments to the gramophone, music was a part of life for some, but not for others. Find out more, and treat your ears!

August 2, 2014 ~ Night at the Museum* 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

This Saturday is totally active and it's in the evening, with a site-wide game of Capture the Flag. In honour of the centennial of the start of WWI (which began August 8, 1914), the theme of the night's game is The Great War, with the Allies vs. the Axis. But because it's 2014, we'll let you use whatever you want to build your strategy, including cell phones! Come out and join the game!

August 9, 2014 ~ Amazing Pioneer Race

Complete with detours, roadblocks, and a fast forward, come out to see if you can complete the race first! (Tip: you might want to call out your friends and family, so they can join you or compete against you!) We'll be timing the teams and judging the completion of the tasks, and keeping a leader board in the Gift Shop and even on Facebook. Who says history is boring!

August 16, 2014 ~ Timber, Trails, and Trekking

Explore the great outdoors of our museum village site. We'll be running creek walking activities, orienteering, forest fun, and interpretive hikes. Get out and get active!

August 23, 2014 ~ Night at the Museum* 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

This Saturday is totally active and it's in the evening, with a site-wide game of Capture the Flag. We're reprising the evening game, but with a change of theme: The Rebellion of 1837! The teams this night will be the Rebels vs. the Family Compact. And again, since it's 2014, and not 1837, we'll let you use whatever you want to build your strategy, including cell phones! Come out and join the game!

August 30, 2014 ~ Keep the Home Fires Burning

Great Britain declared war on Germany on August 8, 1914, and suddenly Canada was at war. Pickering's boys signed up, some never to return again. Find out what those left behind did to support their boys at the front. From ration recipes, to local propaganda, come out and get a taste of how Pickering kept the home fires burning.

September 6, 2014 ~ Spirit of Rebellion

Every September, PMV presents its dramatic play, "A Spirit Walk: Call to Rebellion" about Pickering's part in the 1837 Rebellion. Come out and learn more about how this march changed government in Canada forever, and the sacrifices our community's families made for political change. See our museum's treasured rebellion box, and learn how these amazing trinkets were handcrafted by the rebels in Toronto Jail. Also enjoy our temporary exhibit: "A Family Story: The Asahel Scott Box".

Please note that Heritage demonstrations will vary, and are subject to change. Follow us on Facebook to get all the updates and schedule changes.

Free with admission. Regular Pickering Museum Village admission applies.
