Heritage Activities

Playing in the past is just a click away. The following printable versions are some of the crafts, heritage games, and recipes that have been kid (and adult) tested over the years at our popular workshops and programs.

The Artifact Collection and Resource Library

Part of our mandate is to make the artifacts, stories, and heritage of Pickering accessible to the public. If you are conducting research on a topic that falls within our museum's time period of 1810 to 1920, we may be able to help!

We have a resource library related to early settler life with books and files ranging from plants, to farm equipment, and everything in between. Materials cannot leave the museum village.

In addition, to primary and secondary resources, our museum has over 10,000 artifacts, including heritage buildings, in our collection. Over half of the museum village's collection is in storage, some of which is rotated out on a seasonal basis as necessary for its conservation and preservation. There are artifacts that are seldom, if ever, on display in the temporary gallery space in the Administration Building, or in the 19 heritage buildings of the living history village. Requests by researchers and students to view items in the collection may be granted on a by-request basis.

To ensure that staff are able to help you with your research, appointments must be made in advance to access the resource library or the collection.
