Notice of Road Reconstruction - Kingston Road (Highway 2)

Posted on Wednesday February 25, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department has completed the tendering process for the reconstruction of Kingston Road (Durham Highway 2), from 315 meters west of Liverpool Road (Regional Road 29) to 600 meters east of Liverpool Road (Regional Road 29), in the City of Pickering. Proposed work consists of storm sewer replacement, local watermain replacement, road widening, sidewalk reconstruction, and traffic signal replacements. The proposed work will provide bus-only lanes and on-road buffered bicycle lanes.

Construction Schedule

The Region’s contractor, KAPP Contracting Inc. will start work March 2 and are expected to complete the work by October 2015. Most construction will occur in the daytime, Monday to Friday. Some road crossing construction and road resurfacing will be completed overnight.

Lane Restrictions

Right turn lanes on Kingston Road will be closed in stages to permit construction of the watermain, storm sewer and road widening. During non-peak traffic periods, left turn lanes may be closed, and through lanes may be reduced to one lane in each direction when warranted due to the nature of the work. Through traffic lanes on Kingston Road will be maintained in the peak direction during peak traffic periods. Access for local businesses will be maintained during business hours. The Region will notify residents and businesses in advance of any driveway restrictions.

The Region realizes that the work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly as possible. Motorists are reminded to take additional precautions while travelling through the construction area for the safety of the construction workers.
