Pickering Development Notices Go From Bland to Grand

Posted on Monday June 13, 2016

The City of Pickering has introduced a sleek, simplified Development Notice Sign to better inform the public of what’s happening in the community.

The new sign incorporates larger font, plain language messaging, eye-catching colourful graphics and renderings when applicable, and a clear call to action to encourage community feedback.

“As our City experiences significant economic and residential growth over the next 20 years, it is imperative that we do a better job of engaging residents in the planning process to ensure we implement a common vision for Pickering,” said Tom Melymuk, Director, City Development.

Currently, all development applicants are required to post notices on the proposed site, indicating what type of development is slated for the lands, and how the public can get involved.

“The new notice is vibrant, informative, and inviting,” said Mayor Dave Ryan. “Community engagement is one of our corporate priorities, and seeking feedback on what speaks to the public is an important step toward building a trustful, ongoing and collaborative relationship with our residents.”
