Celebrate Seniors Month with Us!
The City of Pickering is thrilled to launch the highly anticipated Seniors Month festivities, which are designed to engage and celebrate the vibrant community of older adults in our City. Throughout the month of June, adults 55+ can look forward to a diverse array of events, workshops, and activities that will provide entertainment, enrichment, and connection.
As part of the Spotlight Series, the City of Pickering is delighted to welcome a lineup of esteemed guest speakers who will share their knowledge and expertise on a variety of captivating topics. From healthcare advancements, to lifestyle strategies, these spotlight sessions aim to provide valuable insights and empower seniors to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
In addition to the informative Spotlight Series, the City of Pickering has partnered with Pickering Animal Services on an exciting initiative: pottery workshops for a cause! Adults 55+ are invited to tap into their creative spirit, and participate in pottery workshops, where you will learn the art of sculpting and shaping clay into unique masterpieces. Pet bowls and proceeds from these workshops will directly benefit the Pickering Animal Shelter, allowing participants to make a positive impact while indulging in artistic talents or trying something new.
We are also thrilled to announce the return of two beloved programs at George Ashe Community Centre: Bingo in the Park and Art in the Park! Bingo enthusiasts can look forward to an afternoon of excitement, friendly competition, and fantastic prizes as they gather in the picturesque park and enjoy the sun. Meanwhile, Art in the Park offers the opportunity to unleash creativity amidst nature's beauty, allowing participants to express themselves through various artistic mediums.
And finally, if singing and dancing are more your speed, you can attend our Big Band Event, being held on Sunday, June 11. The George Lake Big Band will perform live, for your listening and / or dancing pleasure! Tickets for the Big Band event are available for purchase at East Shore Community Centre, George Ashe Library and Community Centre, as well at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex.
