Pickering recognized as leader in sustainability

Posted on Tuesday May 15, 2018

The City of Pickering was honoured to receive a Leadership Award from EcoBusiness Network (EBN) at last night’s Council Meeting.

Presented by EBN Executive Director, Christine Ball, the Leadership Award acknowledges and celebrates the exceptional efforts and accomplishments made by local leaders.

“EcoBusiness Network has had a long history with the City of Pickering as both a member and sponsor of our organization,” said Ball. “It was a great pleasure to recognize the City’s continued dedication to environmental leadership and overall impact reduction in our community.”

The City has demonstrated leadership in sustainability through various initiatives including running an annual Farmers’ Market to increase access to local food, retrofitting more than 7,000 streetlights with LED technology, and enhancing the natural environment for pollinators through habitat enhancement and educational programs.

“There are many inspiring ways to make our lives and community more sustainable,” said Mayor Dave Ryan. “I am proud to have our accomplishments recognized, and look forward to setting a leadership example for the greater community as we continue our Sustainable Pickering journey.”
