Pets step up to the challenge at first-of-its-kind Canine Activity Area in Pickering
Pickering, ON, January 10, 2023 – The City of Pickering is thrilled to announce that its Canine Activity Area, located in the new leash-free area of Dunmoore Park, is now open to the public, and fast becoming a popular destination for eager-to-learn dogs and their owners.
The new canine activity area, sponsored by Pet Valu, is the first of its kind in the GTA, and comprised of ten activity stations that guide owners and their dogs through a number of fun exercises to build both skills and endurance.
The stations were created by canine experts, and designed to be inclusive, meaning dogs of all sizes, ages, and training experience can enjoy them.
Each station has a sign with step-by-step instructions and a QR code that can be scanned to watch demonstration videos, making it easy for owners and their dogs to follow along and learn new tricks.
The stations aim to enrich and stimulate dogs by providing both fun and challenging activities to conquer, and provide a safe space for owners and their dogs to bond and learn together.
“We are proud to be the first municipality within the GTA to offer this one-of-a-kind activity area to our residents and visitors,” said Lindsey Narraway, Supervisor, Animal Services. “We thank Pet Valu for the $25,000 sponsorship, which has allowed us to provide a safe environment for dogs to run around freely, get exercise, and socialize.”
“Each day Pet Valu supports memorable moments for pets and pet lovers across Canada,” says Tanbir Grover, Chief Digital and Marketing Officer, Pet Valu. “We’re delighted to sponsor this innovative new Canine Activity Area and we look forward to the many special moments it will create for pets and their families in Pickering.”
As a nationally-recognized leader in sustainability, Pickering is proud to have created these stations with sustainability in mind. Many of the materials were repurposed, including the tires from the ‘Tire Yourself Out’ station, which were generously donated by a local farmer.
