CAO, Marisa Carpino named one of Canada’s Clean50 Award Honourees
Pickering, ON, October 11, 2022 – The City of Pickering is pleased to announce that CAO, Marisa Carpino, has been named one of this year’s Clean50 Award honourees.
The annual awards program, led by Delta Management Group, celebrates Canada’s top leaders in sustainability, and is selected from 16 diverse categories that transcend industry, academia, government, thought leaders, and advocates.
Carpino joins a number of clean tech innovators and leading authorities on sustainability in this year’s award win.
“I am thrilled for this opportunity to represent all of the great work being done by staff in support of the forward-thinking policies set by Council,” said Marisa Carpino, CAO, City of Pickering. “Pickering continues to evolve as an inclusive, sustainable, and engaged community, and our priorities are demonstrated through many projects and practices related to addressing climate change, supporting urban forests, pollinators, waste reduction, water conservation, and energy efficiency, to name a few. Most recently, Pickering Council approved new Integrated Sustainable Design Standards, which will see all new development reviewed against innovative green best practices and technology, further advancing our vision for a sustainable community.”
The City’s Standards will give building owners and homeowners the opportunity to experience the benefits of sustainable homes, such as reduced energy and water costs through improved efficiency. The Standards focus on important elements such as urban heat island reduction, healthy street trees, bicycle and electric vehicle infrastructure, outdoor amenity space, accessibility, resiliency to climate change, waste management, resident education, and bird-friendly design.
As well as recognizing achievements such as the City’s Standards, the awards and related summit aims to inspire greater collaboration among the honourees and encourage action from the wider public on issues affecting the climate and natural resources.
”Delta’s criteria in determining honourees is to carefully consider actual measurable accomplishments, demonstrated innovation, collaboration with other organizations, and the power of the honouree’s contribution to inspire other Canadians to take similar action,” said Gavin Pitchford, CEO, Delta Management Group.
The City of Pickering thanks the Clean50 Award Committee for this honour and encourages residents, businesses, and visitors to learn more about the City’s sustainability initiatives and how to get involved.
