Pickering invites public to help shape the future of sustainable development in Pickering

Posted on Wednesday January 12, 2022

Pickering, ON, January 12, 2022 – The City of Pickering is developing a new set of Integrated Sustainable Design Standards to help shape new development and re-development in Pickering, and invites residents and stakeholders to have their say.

Developing a new set of standards will allow the City to review development through a lens that includes modern green best practices and technology. The standards will help City staff evaluate development proposals to ensure they meet the City’s sustainability objectives.

To help inform the first draft of these standards, a public survey is available at LetsTalkPickering.ca/standards until January 21, 2022. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the page to register as a user, learn more, and complete the survey. The City would like to learn what sustainable features in a home and community are important to residents.

This work is being funded through an $86,000 grant from The Atmospheric Fund and a $10,000 contribution from the Region of Durham. With this funding, the City retained Urban Equation Corp., a consulting firm with significant expertise in the field of sustainable community building, to lead this exciting project.

The City looks forward to working in collaboration with its residents, Indigenous community, development industry, and stakeholders, to establish progressive new development standards.
