Pickering Approves New Waterfront Paid Parking Plan

Posted on Tuesday November 23, 2021

Pickering, ON, November 23, 2021 - At last night’s City Council meeting, the City of Pickering approved a new waterfront parking plan that would see the implementation of paid parking from May 1st to October 1st annually for non-residents at municipally-owned parking lots and paid permit parking on one side of waterfront area streets.

Pickering residents will be able to pre-register and receive a no-charge permit to park at either the waterfront parking lots or where on-street parking is allowed.  Free parking will be provided to accessible parking permit holders and vehicles bearing veterans’ licence plates.

Over the next several months, City staff will be working on the details of the waterfront parking plan including the no charge permit application process for Pickering residents.  Once finalized, it will be posted on pickering.ca and promoted on social media.  Additionally, staff will continue to investigate options to create additional parking in the waterfront areas.

“The waterfront is the shimmering jewel of Pickering.  While we are pleased to welcome visitors to this beautiful and popular destination, we must also be mindful of the comfort, convenience, and safety of the local residents,” said Mayor Dave Ryan.  “I want to acknowledge and thank the hundreds of residents who participated in the public consultation process.  Based on your feedback, we feel this new waterfront parking plan strikes the right balance between providing an accessible waterfront for all while also respecting the local community.”
