City Councillor - Ward 2
City of Pickering

Ian was first elected as City Councillor, Ward 2 in 2014.

Prior to his election, he attended and participated in many Council meetings, offering the unique perspectives of both concerned resident, and small local business owner - proving himself as a strong advocate for the community. His personal passion for community health and safety, the environment, and renewable energies inspired him to be a voice for Pickering residents.

Ian believes in government transparency and accountability, and engaging the public in decisions made by a cohesive and empathetic Council.

Having immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1967, Ian has been a long-term resident of Ward 2, where he has raised two sons, and is now a proud grandfather of five.

Ian's 40-year business background in the technology and commercial banking sectors fuels his drive to enhance business retention and promote economic development in Pickering.

With a wealth of experience in fundraising and helping young companies to get off the ground, Ian is committed to supporting startup businesses and young entrepreneurs; and helping businesses grow in Pickering as our City matures.

Ian believes in responsible development, and creating a team atmosphere where Pickering residents can feel fairly informed and engaged in the decision-making process.

He is dedicated to building on Pickering's business base to ease the property tax burden on residents, and hopes that his fresh perspective will help build greater transparency and accountability on Council.
