Location MapThe City of Pickering is proceeding with detailed design and construction of the 2012 Council approved Master Plan for Rotary Frenchman's Bay West Park.

Phase 1 Construction

The City of Pickering Council approved funds for the first phase of construction in the 2018 Capital Budget. The tree removal required to permit the first phase of construction will be completed by early April. Construction is expected to commence in early May and be completed by the fall of 2018.

Public Consultation for Master Plan Process

A Public Open House was held on November 9, 2016 to share with the community the improvements proposed for this park, and to gather input and comments.

The quality and amount of feedback received from the residents and stakeholders on the Frenchman's Bay West Park Master Plan was encouraging and appreciated. Comments have been reviewed by City staff including Senior Management, the City's design consultant, Toronto Region & Conservation Authority staff, and members of Council. Input was also provided by Durham Regional Police Services and Pickering Fire Services.

A number of positive changes were made to the plan including:

  • reconfiguration of the parking area at the boat launch to provide turning space that accommodates only small craft launching, inclusion of a minimal number of short term car/trailer parking spaces, and relocation of the accessible parking and pedestrian walkway to the beach side of this area
  • relocation of the Interpretive Educational Area to the south side of Beachpoint Promenade
  • redesign in scale and style of the Natural Interpretive Play Area, to be more closely linked to the Educational Interpretive Area
  • increase the number of enhanced beachfront access points (to control pedestrian crossings through the dune areas)
  • inclusion of an accessible fishing node on Frenchman's Bay.
