Parks and Sports Field Amenities

The following areas are open:

  • off-leash areas and parking lot - Grand Valley Park
  • sports fields (including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and track and field)
    • Individuals may use outdoor sports facilities and multi-use fields for non-team sports, such as walking, running, biking, skateboarding, Frisbee, kicking a ball, and low contact racquet sports. Individuals are not permitted to play team sports such as soccer or baseball, even on fields intended for this purpose, unless they are members of the same household.
    • Effective June 19, 2020, outdoor team sports may resume, if physically distanced, for training only, and with no scrimmages or games. 
  • basketball courts
  • pickleball court - Village East Park 
  • skateboard park - Diana Princess of Wales Park 
  • picnic sites, benches and shelters in parks and recreational areas
  • park parking lots
  • public tennis courts – located at Village East and Claremont Park
    • Please note that the indoor courts at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex will remain closed until community centres are authorized to reopen.

Playground Structures and Park Amenities

The City's three splash pads are open for use. Locations include Beachfront Park (9 am – 9 pm), Amberlea Park (9 am – 8 pm), and Foxtail Green (9 am – 8 pm). Health and safety signage is posted onsite.

All public washroom facilities are open. 

Starting Friday, July 24, outdoor playgrounds, play structures, and equipment will be open for public use. Please note that equipment is not cleaned or sanitized and the City reminds residents to use at their own risk, practice physical distancing, sanitize hands often, and stay home if sick.

Facility permits

  • Permits for private events at City facilities are cancelled until further notice.
  • All fees paid for facility bookings will be refunded.
  • Please email facilitybooking@pickering.ca for parks and facility booking related inquiries.
  • Library room bookings have been cancelled until further notice. Refunds will be issued.

Summer ice permits

  • Permits for 2020 Summer Ice are cancelled. 

Sports Fields Permits 

  • The City is issuing permits for sports fields and activities compliant with Health Department Guidelines. For information and bookings, call 905.831.1711.
