Infographic on Frequently Asked Questions for the 2022 Municipal Election

Election Day is Monday, October 24, 2022.

  1. Make sure you are on the Voters’ List. Click here to check if you are on the Voters' List. If you are on the Voters’ List, you will receive a Voter Information Package (VIP) in the mail. Keep your VIP in a safe place. The assigned credentials can only be used by the elector to whom the VIP is addressed to and electors may only vote once in the Election. 
  2. Voting Options: Internet Voting will be available to all eligible electors during the entire Voting Period (October 17, 2022 at 10 am until Election Day at 8 pm). In-person, Paper Ballot Voting is available on Election Day only at Voting Locations across the City of Pickering from 10 am to close of polls at 8 pm. How to Vote by Internet (Entire Voting Period) 

Beat the rush and vote early!

You have 8 days to vote online. Follow these steps below to cast your ballot online: 

  1. Visit the URL on your Voter Information Package (VIP).
  2. Enter the assigned Voter ID, Voter PIN and full Date of Birth (including year) when prompted. 
  3. Complete a CAPTCHA challenge.
  4. Read and accept a Declaration and Offences Statement.
  5. Make your selections. The system will prompt you to confirm your selections prior to submitting the ballot.

Need help with Internet Voting? Voter Assistance Centres (VACs) will be available to eligible electors who need assistance with the Internet voting process or who may not have internet access to cast their Ballot using the Internet Voting System. All VACs will be equipped with iPads and computers to allow voters to cast their Ballot if needed. VACs are open for the first 7 days of the Voting Period.

How to Vote by Paper Ballot (Election Day Only) 

  1. To vote by Paper Ballot on Election Day, you will need to visit one of the designated Voting Locations. View the list of Voting Locations on the Voting Locations page. Voting Locations will be open on Election Day from 10 am to 8 pm. 
  2. You will need your Voter Information Package (VIP) and ID with name and qualifying address to cast your vote by paper ballot. For a list of acceptable identification, visit www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/130304.

Why should I vote? 

Your vote makes a difference! By voting you are helping set the future direction of your community.

 

City Council decides how your property tax dollars are spent and establishes the level and range of municipal services available in your community.

Who can Vote?

To vote in Pickering’s Municipal Election, on Election Day, you must be:

 - a Canadian citizen;

 - at least 18 years old,

 - a resident in the city of Pickering (you or your spouse lives, rents or owns property in Pickering); and,

 - not prohibited from voting under any law.

 

You may only vote once in the City of Pickering Municipal Election regardless of how many properties you own or rent in the city.

 

You must vote in the ward where you live. If you own or rent property in Pickering but do not live there, you may qualify for a non-resident ballot.

 

Who cannot vote:

You are prohibited from voting on Election Day, if you are:

 - serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;

 - a corporation;

 - acting as an executor or trustee or in another representative capacity; or,

 - convicted of a corrupt practice as described in section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

What are the Voting Methods? 

Internet Voting will be available for the entire Voting Period. (October 17, 2022 at 10 am until Election Day at 8 pm)

In-person, Paper Ballot Voting will only be offered on Election Day at Voting Locations across the City of Pickering from 10 am to the close of poll at 8 pm. 

Are you on the Voters' List? 

Beginning September 1st, and up to the close of voting on Election Day, you can verify your information, or apply to add or update your information on the Voters' List.

Misplaced or lost your Voter Information Package (VIP)? 

Visit City Hall, a Voter Assistance Centre (VAC) or a Voting Location (VL) to be issued a new VIP.

You can still vote if you do not receive a VIP.  Bring ID showing both your name and qualifying address to any Voter Assistance Centre or Voting Location to be able to cast your vote.
