Recognizing our local talent

Pickering is fortunate to have a talented community of painters, illustrators, photographers, sculptors, potters: all masters of their craft.  It is our honour to exhibit their work at the Pickering Civic Complex each year - just one of the ways we demonstrate our pride, and promote such deserving, local artists.

Pickering has a number of festivals, activities and resources that support culture and arts; many are listed below.  Review our City Services & Leisure Guide for a full description of the arts and culture programs we offer.

Take a private studio tour through the Durham West Arts Centre and get a glimpse behind the creative minds of local artists.  Visit the PineRidge Arts Council for local art resources, workshops and events.

Esplanade Park Concert Series

Bring your lawn chair and join us for an afternoon of entertainment.  Concerts are held Sundays in July and August at 2:00 pm in Esplanade Park at the Gazebo (Pickering City Hall). Please note: There will be no concert on Sunday, July 3 or Sunday, August 7, 2016.  The 2016 schedule will be available in April.

Waterfront Concert Series

Every summer, the City hosts a Waterfront Concert Series. Residents can head down to Millennium Square and either set up their lawn chair for an evening of complementary summer time entertainment or dance the night away to anything from contemporary pop hits to rock n' roll.  Concerts are held on Thursday evenings in July and August from 7 pm to 9 pm.  In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be cancelled.  Waterfront Concerts are proudly sponsored by Ontario Power Generation.  The 2016 schedule will be available in April.

Are you interested in performing at our Summer Concerts? We are now accepting applications to perform at next years' Summer Concert Series and other City Events throughout 2016. The deadline to apply is February 8, 2016.  Only those selected to perform will be notified.

Durham West Studio Tour

Local artists open their homes and studios to this free self-guided tour.  Map of locations will be available in early 2016. For additional information call 905.926.1171 or visit dwac.ca

Artfest

Esplanade Park, Pickering Civic Complex
11 am - 5 pm

Every summer, Esplanade Park comes alive with music, dance, crafts and singing, along with children's art areas and artists demonstrations. This free arts event will include over 90 artists from across the province who show and sell a fantastic variety of original art which include Paintings (Oil, Acrylic, Watercolour), Photography, Pottery, Wood Carvings, Jewellery, Hand Made Rugs, Stationary and Candles and more! 

The City will once again partner with the Durham West Blues Fest.  A variety of blues performers will take the stage at the Gazebo and on a secondary stage.

Artists at Events

The City of Pickering is providing vendor space to artists and crafters during selected events throughout the year.  Locations include Esplanade Park, Millennium Square and Pickering Museum Village.  Artists are encouraged to complete an application to apply for one or multiple events.
