1920s Audio Tour

Journey back in time to the Roaring 1920s through this self-guided audio tour of the Pickering Museum Village. Learn about Pickering’s toe-tapping music scene and how the dry days of prohibition led to bootlegging.  Included in General Admission.

 

Presented as part of Drama in Durham: War on Whisky tours through South Durham.  After your visit to the museum, Download the Temperance & Temptation podcast and self-guide driving tour to visit local micro breweries and learn how the Bluenoses who supported Temperance openly clashed with the bootleggers and moonshiners who defied the movement.

Nellie's Audio Tour

Join Nellie 170 years ago during the time of Pickering’s 1850s Boom as she takes you on a self-guided audio tour of the Pickering Museum Village.  Included in General Admission.

Pickering Fairy Tour

Pickering's picturesque forest, village and gardens are home to not only some incredible natural creatures, but also some magical ones.  Locate and visit a series of whimsical fairy, elf, and gnome homes scattered in the village and forest and learn about the history and folklore of the magical creatures of the forest.  Pickering Fairy Tour is an opportunity to see their world up close.

Escape the Cabin

The year is 1837. The Upper Canada Rebellion has failed, and you and your rebel comrades are on the run from the local authorities. Remember – treason is a hanging crime these days. Thankfully, just as the militia are catching up, Mr. Smith offers you refuge in his cabin. What seems like a blessing at first quickly turns into a nightmare – once inside the cabin, you notice with dread that you have been tricked and locked inside. You and your group must escape the cabin and regain your freedom before Mr. Smith returns with the militia, and you go from rebels to prisoners. Good luck – your life may depend on it.

Swag Making Workshop

Deck your halls with a lovely evergreen swag-made by you! Join our Museum Interpreter to use fresh greenery to create your own swags (two).  Add in ribbon and natural accents such as pine cones and bittersweet. Learn some history about the materials and how they were used for holiday decorating in the past. This program is completed outdoors, so come dressed for the weather. Bring your family and friends for a creative and fun workshop, just in time for the holidays.

Pickering Museum Village is proud to once again present: A Storybook Christmas – with a brand new story for 2023! Teddy is back with another holiday adventure to follow along with. Guests of all ages will find themselves immersed in the holiday season as they explore the Village through a series of interactive elements, Christmas treats, crafts, trivia, music, and more. And don’t forget – no visit would be complete without a visit from the man in red himself!

PMV Kidz Club! (6 -12 years)

While the parents are away, the kids will play! This day-camp style program includes games, a craft, outdoor play, snack time, and a chance to explore the Museum.  Choose from one of three exciting themes: Heritage Heyday, Super Science, or Fantastic Fairy Tales. Everyone will love this interactive, playful program that gives both kids and parents a break!

This is a drop-off program. Please advise our booking coordinator if your child has any dietary restrictions or allergies.

Glad Rags & Giggle Juice Tea & Talk

Step into the Roaring 1920s with us! Despite voting itself dry for decades, Pickering was anything but dry in the era of Prohibition! You provide the tea (it’s prohibition, after all) and the meeting space. We’ll supply the artifacts, and the straight goods on bootlegging in this new Tea & Talk outreach program.

Fairy Lore, Enchanted Doors

Travel the world through fairies and fairy culture in this enchanting program. Our Museum Interpreter with share stories of wee folk from many countries, along with inspiring images of fairy houses, doors and windows crafted by museum volunteers. Afterwards, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own enchanted entryway!
