Subject: History Topic: 150 Years of Blacksmithing in Canada Grade Level: 7 to 12
Overview Students will explore, interpret, and analyze primary and secondary sources relating to blacksmithing in Canada between 1810 and 1960 with the help of a Scavenger Hunt worksheet and the "Forging ON: Evolution of Blacksmithing in Ontario". They will then use this research as the basis for a roleplaying exercise which will be presented to the class.

Subject: Art Topic: The Art of Blacksmithing Grade Level: 7 to 12
Overview Students will examine various examples of Canadian blacksmithing art throughout the past few decades and watch videos illustrating the method of their production. Using craft wire, clay, and metallic finishes, students will then mimic the process and style of blacksmith artists.

Overview Students will watch the challenge videos on the "Forging ON: Evolution of Blacksmithing in Ontario" website and identify the various scientific processes a blacksmith relies upon when performing his daily duties. Using the trade of blacksmithing as a conduit, students will investigate and understand the practical use of a number of scientific ideas.
