Celebrating Sustainable Neighbourhoods

The Celebrating Sustainable Neighbourhoods program is about connecting with others in your community and doing activities that make Pickering a better place, environmentally, socially and economically.

Besides having fun, building neighbourhood connections and improving the community, groups can win up to $10,000 for a community enhancing infrastructure project.

Check out this inspiring video about the 2015 neighbourhood activities.

Getting involved is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Choose your neighbourhood
  2. Pick an activity
  3. Register

Program Details

1. Choose Your Neighbourhood

Round up your 'Neighbourhood Group' of at least 5 people who live or work in Pickering; this can include immediate neighbours, friends, schools, places of worship, businesses, or organizations.

2. Pick an Activity

What are you passionate about? Choose one or more sustainability-related activities that interest your group. Examples of what other have done include:

  • food drives
  • tree planting
  • community gardening
  • litter cleanups
  • volunteerism
  • group fitness
  • neighbourhood safety
  • fundraising for local charities

Contact us for more ideas.

3. Register Your Group

Register your group's activities before you start at pickering.ca/csn. You have from March 1st to November 30th to complete your activities. Take pictures or video clips so that we can promote your efforts! Are you and your group already doing great activities? Register online, or contact us to see how you may already qualify.

Celebrate Your Success

Participating groups will be invited to our Neighbourhood Celebration Event to recognize group efforts and allow members to share their successes. A peer vote by fellow neighbourhood groups will then decide on 'Best Group Effort,' awarding one deserving group the opportunity to work with the City on a community enhancement project, valued up to $10,000!

For more details around the infrastructure project review our project guidelines.
