What is the City doing to eliminate graffiti?

City of Pickering initiatives that address graffiti problems include:

  • implementing a graffiti reporting program
  • enforcing a Graffiti By-law
  • experimenting with coatings and other materials to protect infrastructure from graffiti
  • liaising with community partners to advise when non-City owned properties are vandalized
  • increasing available space where graffiti art is acceptable (such as the Skateboard Park within Diana, Princess of Wales Park)
  • hosting a graffiti art event lets youth paint graffiti in a designated area
  • working in partnership with CN, Metrolinks, and the Living Wall to investigate the installation of an anti-graffiti barrier near Highway 401 and the CN railway bridge
