When and how will I receive the Zoom link for the class?

If you are participating in a Zoom class, you will be sent an email via the email address that is on your Active Net file (where you registered) about 20-30 minutes before class is due to start. The email will include a direct link to the Zoom class as well as the passcode to get in.

I didn’t receive the link and I’m registered. What do I do?

Start by checking your spam folder to ensure the email with the class link wasn’t sent there. Next ensure that the email address you have on file on your Active Net account is the correct email. To check this log into your account at Click on your name to bring up your account details and check which email address you have on file as that is where the Zoom class email will be sent.

If you still have not received the link at least 10 minutes before class please contact the registration desk at 905-420-4620 ext. 3277 (Monday-Friday 8am-4pm). If the class falls outside these hours you can reach fitness staff at 905-420-4620 ext 3247 or via email at

However, Zoom does indicate that for ideal camera and video functions that it is best to download the Zoom Client app.

Is there a maximum on the number of participants in a virtual fitness class via Zoom?

Yes, we have placed a limit of 30 people per live virtual Zoom fitness class.

On Zoom: How do I change the Screen View?

In the top right-hand corner of the screen you’ll see an icon that says View. Click on it and you can change your view to either of the following:

  • Speaker View: allows you to see the “speaker” only – which is the instructor. Their screen/video will be the one that pops up on your screen. Other participant’s video may pop up along the bottom in smaller screens.
  • Gallery View: allows you to see all of the participants in the class, as well as the instructor. Everyone’s video/image will appear in a grid-like pattern across your screen. The more participants there are, the smaller the squares will appear.

On Zoom: Why can’t I unmute myself?

We have disabled the ability for participants to unmute themselves during class for a few reasons. For one, our virtual membership classes are being simultaneously live streamed to our members-only Facebook Group so we need to ensure that only the instructor’s video is seen on Facebook. If someone were to unmute themselves and begin speaking, the video would then jump to that participant’s video screen which we don’t want. Secondly, we want to avoid distractions for all participants and ensure that everyone can hear the instructor clearly. If you have a question related to the class use the chat function to message the instructor and they will do their best to answer it when appropriate to do so.

On Zoom: How do I message the instructor?

On the bottom of your screen you’ll see a tab that says Chat. Click on the tab and a chat box will appear. You can then type your message and hit send.

On Zoom: Do I have to turn my camera on during class?

No, this is optional. While we encourage participants to turn their cameras on to allow for a more interactive experience with the instructor it is completely up to you.

On Zoom: How do I turn my camera on/off?

You’ll see an icon at the bottom left of your screen that says video. By clicking on this tab you’ll see it either say Video on or Video off.

On Zoom: My camera/microphone is not working on Zoom. What do I do?

Please refer to the Zoom support page at for any issues with regards to camera and video. There you can find details on how to troubleshoot these issues depending on what kind of device you’re using (Windows, Mac, mobile device, etc.)
