Throughout the month of June and beyond, we encourage staff, residents and community partners to take time to learn, reflect and engage in the many initiatives across Durham Region that honour the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Thursday, May 30, 2024 The City of Pickering will be joined by PFlag Durham Region for a Flag Raising Ceremony of the Progress Pride Flag at City Hall. The ceremony will begin at 9:15 am. |

Sunday, June 2, 2024 The Durham Pride Parade will take place from 1:00pm – 2:00pm in Ajax, beginning at Falby Court and proceeding through Harwood Avenue South, Kings Crescent, the Town of Ajax Parking Lot, and ending at Arbour Park (55 Harwood Ave. S) where there will be a Vendor Fair and entertainment until 5:00 pm. Saturday, June 8, 2024 The award-winning Drag Queen Story Time returns! Featuring two fabulous queens, this family-friendly program showcases stories celebrating diversity and inclusion. Storytime will be followed by musical performances and a variety of fun activities. This program is brought to you in partnership with Durham Children’s Aid Society, Youth Pride Durham, and the Durham Region Public Libraries. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 Kyne shares her story of coming out as a young gay boy in a conservative household, excelling in math at school and being a makeup star on the internet, all leading up to her meteoric rise to becoming a famous math teaching drag queen. She shares some of her favourite math problems and her advice on embracing yourself and what makes you unique. About the presenter: Kyne is a world class drag queen, mathematics communicator, author, podcast host, and keynote speaker. Known as the math queen, Kyne makes popular educational videos on social media, about math, science, history, and drag, which have been viewed more than 350 million times. She started the first drag-STEM podcast Think Queen in 2023, started the weekly newsletter The Math Queen Digest in 2024, and recently authored a book with Johns Hopkins University Press, titled Math In Drag. She has also appeared on the first season of Canada’s Drag Race. Thursday, June 13, 2024 Celebrate Pride Month with a movie! We will be screening a movie, teen-voted obviously, with an extensive popcorn bar and drinks. Voting will take place on our Teen Discord Channel and in the teen area. This is a program for teens (ages 13-19). |

Saturday, June 22, 2024 Youth Pride Durham is a safe, inclusive celebration for youth, children and families who are part of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. Allies are also welcome! This free event champions acceptance through an afternoon of performances, music, dancing and fun activities.
