The City of Pickering will activate the warming centres below during Extreme Cold Weather Alerts.

Pickering Emergency Overnight Warming Shelter

Emergency overnight shelter will be provided at Peace Lutheran Church with services by DARS.

Operating Friday, December 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024

  • The shelter will open when temperatures reach -12 degrees Celsius or colder and/or a wind chill of -15 degrees Celsius or colder. Additional weather conditions will also be considered i.e.: freezing rain, high winds, snowstorms.

Hours:

8:00 pm to 8:00 am, 7 days per week, Monday through Sunday.

  • A blue flag flying at half-mast means it is too cold or wet to be outside at night and the warming center will be open at 8:00 pm.
  • A full mast means it is too cold or wet to be outside and the centre is open.

 

Shelter Services are provided by DARS (Dedicated Advocacy Resource Support)
