What is my School Support?
Property owners in Ontario are required to support a school board, even if they do not have children. Where a residential property is tenanted, the tenants can direct the school support for the property. Your school support designation helps identify which school board you wish to support during school board elections and ensures that school support funding is directed to the appropriate board. By default, school support is directed to the City’s English Public School Board.
Your current designation can be found on your Property Assessment Notice. As a property owner, occupant, or tenant of a property in Ontario, you must support one the of the following school systems:
- English Public
- English Separate (Catholic)
- French Public
- French Separate (Catholic)
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) collects school support information. To learn more about school support, visit the MPAC website. You can update your school support designation online using the school support designation tool.
Review your school support by June 1, 2026, to ensure your correct school support designation is provided to Elections Ontario in time for the next municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026.
