City of Pickering Invites Eligible Pickering Electors to Run in the 2026 Municipal Election

Pickering, ON, March 16, 2026 – The City of Pickering is inviting eligible Pickering electors, who are interested in shaping the future of their community, to consider running for office in the 2026 Municipal Election.
The next Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Municipal elections play an important role in local democracy. Members of Council help guide decisions that affect everyday life in Pickering, from community programs and parks to roads and safety, growth, and the long-term vision for the City.
School board trustees are the members of a school board and are the community's advocate for public education. They are required to carry out their responsibilities in a manner that assists the board in fulfilling its duties under the Education Act.
The upcoming election provides an opportunity for eligible Pickering electors to step forward and serve their community. Individuals wishing to run for office can file their nomination beginning Friday, May 1, 2026. The nomination period closes on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
Candidates may seek election to the following offices:
• Office of Mayor
• Office of Regional Councillor, Ward 1
• Office of Regional Councillor, Ward 2
• Office of Regional Councillor, Ward 3
• Office of City Councillor, Ward 1
• Office of City Councillor, Ward 2
• Office of City Councillor, Ward 3
• Office of Trustee, Durham District School Board
• Office of Trustee, Durham Catholic District School Board
Nominations must be filed in person by the candidate or their authorized agent at:

Nomination papers will be accepted during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm) throughout the nomination period. On Nomination Day (August 21), filings will be accepted between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Nomination Papers and information for the Office of Regional Chair, Regional Municipality of Durham, must be obtained and filed in the Office of the Regional Clerk, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby. Please visit www.durham.ca/elections for more details.
Nomination Papers and information for the Office of Conseiller(ère), Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French-Language Public School Board) or the Office of Conseiller(ère), Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French-Language Catholic School Board), must be obtained and filed in the Office of the City Clerk, City of Oshawa, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa.
