Pickering, ON, July 20, 2026 – The Pickering Public Library Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristine D’Souza as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Public Libraries, effective July 20, 2026.

Duration: Saturday, July 18, 2026 – 7:00 am to 9:00 pm 

Due to prolonged high temperatures and to support the ongoing safety of our community, the City has implemented a burn ban, effective immediately and until further notice.

• All agricultural burn permits are suspended until the ban is lifted.
  
  
• Propane and natural gas BBQs are allowed for cooking. They must only be used on non-combustible surfaces and kept safely away from structures and dry vegetation. Pickering Fire Services urges residents to refrain from non-essential outdoor cooking using charcoal or woodfired appliances due to the elevated risk.
  
  
• Chimineas, bonfires, and wood-burning appliances remain prohibited in Pickering. Propane or natural gas fire bowls and fire tables should not be used while the burn ban is in effect.
  
  
• If you smoke, ensure your cigarette is fully extinguished and properly disposed of in a deep, sturdy ashtray before walking away. Outdoors, fires can quickly escalate, often leading to significant and widespread damage.

This ban is a protective measure to help prevent accidental fires and ensure emergency services remain available for those who need them most.

Pickering, ON, June 8, 2026 – In 2025, City staff filed a harassment complaint against Councillor Robinson under the City’s Respect in the Workplace Policy, citing an ongoing campaign of bullying, intimidation, and persistent harassing conduct directed at staff that began in 2024. 

Pickering, ON, May 29, 2026 – The City of Pickering will host a planned emergency preparedness exercise on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in partnership with the Region of Durham’s Emergency Social Services program. The exercise will test activation and operation of a municipal evacuation centre and coordinated support for evacuees during a simulated emergency.

Pickering, ON, May 26, 2026 – The City of Pickering has endorsed the final design concept for City Centre Park, a major step in transforming Pickering’s downtown into a vibrant, connected, and people-focused destination. Approved by Council at its May 25th meeting, the preferred design sets the vision for a landmark public space where nature, culture, recreation, and community life come together in the heart of the City Centre.
