Mayor Ashe’s Statement on Yesterday’s Tragedy

Pickering, ON, May 30, 2025 – Yesterday, an innocent member of our community lost her life in a tragic and senseless act of violence.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones as they face this devastating loss, and the City stands ready to offer any support possible during this most difficult time.

I extend my thanks to the Durham Regional Police and all the other police agencies who responded to this terrible situation and brought it to quick resolve.

Having lived here for most of my life, I know Pickering to be a safe and close-knit community. A horrific tragedy like this is truly unprecedented, and while there will be much discussion and speculation in the days ahead, I ask for patience as the police investigation continues, as well as privacy for the victim’s family.

For now, let us come together as a community to remember the victim, support her loved ones, and grieve together. While this is an extremely difficult time for us all, particularly for the victim’s family and friends, I know that we will unite in strength and compassion as we begin the long journey toward healing.
