 A minimum of 4 lanes are available for this popular swim time. Circle swim is enforced to accommodate more swimmers. Children must be able to swim lengths confidently.

This is a great time for the whole family to come and enjoy our pools.

Please note: Children 7 years of age and younger will not be admitted to the pool unless they are directly supervised in the pool by a responsible parent or guardian, 16 years of age and older. Direct supervision is defined as "within arm's reach". There is a maximum of 2 children to 1 guardian required. Children between the ages of 8 and 9 years, who cannot pass a swim test to the lifeguard's satisfaction, must be directly supervised by a responsible parent or guardian, 16 years of age and older. There is a maximum of 4 children to 1 guardian.

 Public Swim Information

  • Children 7 years of age and younger must be directly supervised (regardless of swimming ability) in the pool, by a responsible guardian 16 years of age or older. Direct supervision is defined as “within arm’s reach”. Maximum of 2 children to 1 guardian.
  • Children between the ages of 8 and 9 who cannot pass a swim test to the lifeguard’s satisfaction must be supervised by a responsible guardian, 16 years of age or older, maximum of 4 children per guardian. For the swim test children must swim 10 metres of the pool, tread water for 30 seconds, swim 15 metres of the pool.
  • All swimmers who are not toilet trained are required to wear diapers that are designed for pool use.
  • Children 7 years of age and younger cannot be left unattended on the deck. Child Supervision may be available at CHD Recreation Complex.
  • All participants must change from street clothes to a clean, appropriate swimwear that is suitable for a public family environment. Additionally, participants may choose to wear long sleeved shirts or t-shirts, shorts or tight fitted leggings over their swimsuit. Clothing must allow the swimmer to participate safely.
  • Please be reminded that change room stalls may not be reserved, nor may clothing be left in the stalls. Feel free to bring a lock to secure your valuables in one of the available lockers.
  • Appropriate bathing suit attire is required in the pool and on the pool deck. Street clothes and shoes will not be permitted on the deck or in the shower area. Patrons wearing street clothes are welcome to watch from the viewing area.
  • People with serious medical conditions should be accompanied by an individual knowledgeable of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision.
  • No unauthorized coaching or teaching in the pool.
  • Recreational swimming hours may be changed due to swim meets or rentals. Changes to pool schedules will be posted one week prior to change if possible.
  • Help prevent pool foulings by feeding your child after swimming or at least one hour before swimming.
  • Shower before entering or re-entering the pool.
  • All persons entering the pool area must pay admission
  • The use of electronic recording devices including cell phones and cameras are prohibited in the change rooms and washrooms of all City of Pickering facilities.

Admission Standards

Admission Standards for Public Pools were developed by the Office of the Chief Coroner to assist lifeguards in
maintaining adequate surveillance over the whereabouts and the activities of young bathers while they are inside
the pool area.

  • Children 10 years of age and under who are non-swimmers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 16 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision. The ratio of non-swimmers to parent or guardian may be a maximum of 4 bathers to one parent or guardian (4:1).
  • Children 10 years of age and under who are swimmers (able to demonstrate comfort in the water and pass the facility swim test) may be admitted to the swimming pool unaccompanied.
  • Children 7 years of age and under may not be admitted to the swimming pool unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of two children for each parent or guardian.
  • Guardians or group leaders are responsible for the children in their care while in the facility and must directly supervise the children at all times.
  • Guardians or group leaders should be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ratios of instructors/lifeguards to bathers must also be maintained as per Regulation 565.
