Important Updates to Studio Firing Policies
To ensure a smoother and more equitable firing process for all students, we are implementing several important changes to our studio firing rules. As a reminder, the City does not guarantee the successful turn out of pieces and is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- New Ticketing System for Kiln Firing
A new ticketing system will be implemented to manage kiln space and maintain a steady flow of work through the studio.- Upon purchasing a bag of clay, students will receive 20 Bisque and 20 Glaze firing tickets.
- Tickets must be submitted with each piece turned in for firing. Submission date must be included on each ticket.
- Ticket quantity is based on the size of the piece. Please refer to the size chart posted in the studio for guidance.
- The city is not responsible for lost or stolen tickets.
- Final decisions on size classification will be made by the studio technicians to ensure optimal kiln usage.
- Weekly Submission Limit
To provide all students with fair access to firing space:- Students may submit a maximum of 6 pieces per week for firing. Please allow at least 2 weeks for a piece to be fired.
- This applies to both bisque and glaze firings combined.
- Students may submit a maximum of 2 oversized pieces per session. Note- oversized pieces may have an increased wait time to be fired.
- Final Bisque Firing Cut-Off
To ensure a timely turnaround at the end of each session:- No new bisque pieces will be accepted after Week 8 of the program.
This allows the studio to complete all firings and return the finished pieces as quickly as possible for each session.
- No new bisque pieces will be accepted after Week 8 of the program.
- Clay Purchase Limits
To manage studio resources and ensure availability for all:- Students are limited to a maximum of 2 bags of clay per session, per class taken.
- A minimum of one bag must be purchased per class.
- No clay will be available for purchase after week 7
- Outside clay is not permitted within the studio.
- All clay is final sale.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to make the studio a more efficient and accessible space for everyone. If you have any questions, please speak with staff.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you all in the studio soon!
