Little Worlds to Explore
Introduction

About the Artwork
Little Worlds to Explore is a playful, nature-inspired installation that invites children into a world of curiosity, observation, and imagination. Composed of hand-painted wooden elements, the artwork unfolds across the wall as a flowing landscape of birds in motion, water, and small architectural forms inspired by Pickering’s local heritage. The movement of the creek and the presence of fish subtly reflect the rhythms of Duffin’s Creek, while surrounding plants and skies echo the region’s natural environment. Moments of children exploring, watching, reaching, and discovering are placed throughout the composition, encouraging a sense of wonder and connection to the world around them. Through its handcrafted quality and gentle, story-like composition, the work celebrates how learning and imagination can grow through observation, play, and a deeper attention to nature.
