The City offers camp opportunities for children throughout the year including PA Days, Winter Holidays, March Break, and Summer.

Our Staff
All Camp Staff are certified in Standard First Aid & CPR-C, completed courses in the “High Five” Principles of Healthy Child Development, have satisfactory vulnerable sector screening (Police Check), and have received additional Health & Safety training related to COVID 19.

General Camp & Registration Information
  • Pack a lunch, snack, and drinks daily. All camps are peanut-free.
  • Campers must be minimum age at start of camp.
  • City programs, events, and services will operate in compliance with current Provincial Guidelines as such are subject to change.

Winter Break Camps 

This year's winter break camps are being offered as (2) one day sessions and (1) 4 day session in a variety of camp choices. 
Available dates are: December 28 (1 day) | December 29 (1 day) | January 3 - 6 (4 days)

Winter Break: Mini Pidaca (4 - 5 yrs)

Each day will include exciting new activities to get your little camper up and moving! Activities will consist of dance, arts & crafts, creative time, outdoor adventures and lots of games and fun! 

Winter Break: Creative Arts Camp (5 - 12 yrs)

Calling all creatives to join us for an art packed week of fun and making! Campers will enjoy a wide variety of crafts, games, and activities designed to showcase their creativity. Dance and drama classes are also part of the week and will keep campers active and interacting with new friends.

 Winter Break: Multi-Sports Camp (5 - 12 yrs)

For kids who love being active in sports! Campers will be asked what their favourite sports are and the week will be geared around their choices. Campers will learn the rules and develop new skills in a variety of sports including swimming.

Winter Break: Skating Camp (6 - 12 yrs)

For children who love being on the ice, and being active in a wide variety of activities! Campers will enjoy lots of time on the ice, learning and improving their skating skills. 

Winter Break: Specialty Arts Camp (7 - 12 yrs)

Campers will have the opportunity to explore clay, build and create their own unique projects. They will also learn how to "paint like a pro", creating their own masterpieces to hang at home. Program includes daily physical activity, swimming, and a variety of active games.

Winter Break: Winter Fun All-in-One Camp (5 - 12 yrs)

School is out and the holidays are here! Enjoy a fun filled day of all of your favourite camp activities including swimming, skating, dance and arts and crafts!

Winter Break: Youth Exceptionalities Camp (13 - 19 yrs)

This camp is designed for youth with disabilities, looking for an active, engaging, and social camp experience. This is a fun filled week of recreational, social, and physical activity!

Please note: Campers must be able to manage changing and toileting independently, unless attending camp with a personal support staff.

PA Day Camps 

PA Day: Paint & Play (5 - 12 yrs)

Campers will spend the day exploring clay, learning hand building, and painting a masterpiece to take home. Extended hours are available for before and after camp care.

Camp takes place at CHD Rec Complex - Art Studio

MB: Mini Camp Sampler (3 - 4 yrs)

Little campers will take part in a variety of creative and active activities that will help build skills, create friendships and of course have lots of fun! We will be enjoying both indoor and outdoor activities in this two day, half day camp.

MB: Mini Pidaca (4 - 5 yrs)

Each day will include exciting new activities to get your little camper up and moving! Activities will consist of dance, arts & crafts, creative time, outdoor adventures and lots of games and fun! 

MB: Breakdance Camp (6 - 9 yrs)

 No matter what level of breakdance skill - campers will learn new moves and techniques that will be sure to impress. See who's got what it takes, in our end of session dance battle!
MB: Multi-Sport Camp (5 - 12 yrs)

MB: Outdoor Adventure Camp (5 - 12 yrs)
For campers who love being active and outdoors! We will be spending time both indoors and out, learning what it takes to thrive in the wilderness. Campers will learn how to build a fire, use a compass, go hiking and more.
MB: Skating Camp (6 - 12 yrs)
For children who love being on the ice, and being active in a wide variety of activities! Campers will enjoy lots of time on the ice, learning and improving their skating skills.

Summer Extend-a-camp

This program is offered before and after our full-day camps for those parents and guardians that need a little more time each day. We keep it interesting for campers with new activities, games, and crafts than offered in the day camp programs.

Morning hours are 7:00 am to 9:00 am
Afternoon hours are 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm

Note: before and after care offered for select camps only.

Late pick-up fee ($20.00) applied to any child picked up after 6:00pm daily.

2022 Summer Camp Parent Handbook

Everything you need to know for an awesome time at camp!

Clothing
All campers are advised to wear comfortable clothing, and bring indoor running shoes. Campers are asked not to bring valuables to camp, as they will be responsible for their own belongings. Campers intending to swim should bring a towel
and bathing suit in a separate bag.

Absenteeism 

If you know ahead of time that your child will be absent from camp, please either send a note stating the camper's name and the day that they will be away or, phone the Camp Office at 905.420.4660 ext 3246.

Swimming
Supervision in the pool is 2:1 for ages 7 and under. Campers aged 7 and under are given priority in the turtle pool. When the turtle pool is full, campers wear a life jacket and swim in the shallow end of the large pool. All campers are accompanied by Camp staff. Campers aged 8-10 must demonstrate the ability to pass a swim test to the lifeguard’s satisfaction to swim in the large pool without a life jacket. The swim test consists of a 10 metre swim plus 30 seconds of treading water.

Lunches
Campers are required to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks with them to camp everyday. Extra drinks are recommended. When packing lunches, please be sensitive to any food allergies that may have been brought to your attention. 

Food items with peanuts or peanut products are not permitted at camp. Any food items that are suspected to contain traces of peanuts will not be allowed at camp.


 

Top Four Questions Parents Ask?

  1. What time does camp start and finish?  Camp starts at 9:00 am, ends at 3:15 pm. Extended Camp is offered before and after these hours.
  2. Will my child be with children their own age?  In the morning, camp groups are arranged by age. In the afternoon, camp groups mix ages for our daily team events.
  3. Who is looking after my child at camp?  City of Pickering camp staff are experienced, creative, enthusiastic and fun. They are First Aid/CPR-C certified; have taken a Parks and Recreation HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development training course; must submit a clear vulnerable sector screening; and have attended comprehensive job-related training. All of this is done to ensure a high quality camp experience for your child.
  4. What if my child doesn’t want to swim at camp?  If your child will not be swimming for the day/week, please send a note to their Camp Director and an alternate activity will be arranged.
