Fire Station 5
Project status:
Construction of Fire Station 5 began in October 2026. The new station is expected to be fully operational in the latter half of 2028.
Background:
The City is building a new Fire Station 5 to replace the existing station at 1616 Bayly Street, which has served the community since 1969 and has reached the end of its service life. The new station will be a modern, two-storey facility with two vehicle bays. When open, it will provide the same level of fire service to residents and businesses while providing updated spaces and equipment for firefighters, and be ready to accommodate the anticipated future needs of the response area.
The new location was strategically chosen to help maintain current emergency response times and service levels in southeast Pickering, in keeping with the City’s Fire Master Plan. Building the new station on a separate site also means the existing Fire Station 5 can remain open during construction, so fire protection services can continue without interruption. The new building design has achieved Canada Green Building Council Zero Carbon Building Design Certification, working towards the City’s sustainability goals. Fire Station 5 was designed by ZAS Architects and the general contractor is Pomerlau Inc.
