City Councillor - Ward 1
City of Pickering

Maurice represented Ward 1 for 21 consecutive years, from 1985-2006, in roles as both City Councillor and Regional Councillor, and returned to Council in 2016 following a By-Election.

Maurice is a long term Pickering resident, who has lived in Ward 1 for over 30 years, and is dedicated to building an inclusive community and strengthening local neighbourhoods.

Maurice and his partner Anne have a blended family, with four adult children who grew up in Pickering and now have their own lives and careers. As grandparents to three beautiful grandchildren, Maurice and Anne recognize the importance of a balanced lifestyle with quality time to still enjoy family.

Maurice has served as Acting and Interim Mayor, Vice President of Veridian, Chair of Sustainable Pickering, President of Durham Regional Non-profit Housing, and Co-Chair of Pickering Ajax Transit. He has also served as a member on a number of City and Regional Committees, and currently sits on the Pickering Public Library Board.

Outside of the Council Chamber, Maurice's career involves community advocacy and human rights.  After retiring as Managing Director for Human Rights, Diversity and Fairness, Maurice is now self employed as a Senior Human Rights Consultant, working to promote equality and fairness across Canada. He is also a proud recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award, recognizing his 40 years of dedication and work in the community.
