VOLUNTEERS WANTED

New Member Candidates to fill vacancies on Pickering's 55+ Committee.

The City of Pickering’s “over 55” population has grown and with all signs pointing to its continued growth, the we are looking to fill some vacancies on the Community Services 55+ Committee.

 About the Committee

In 2016, the Community Services Department formed the Adults 55+ Committee, comprised of volunteer members that represent the target population, and act as an advisory group to the City's Community Services staff to;

  • provide new ideas for future 55+ programs
  • help revise and update the website
  • help promote 55+ events in the community
  • identify the current needs of today’s 55+ residents

Vision

Providing high quality leisure facilities, programs and events to Pickering residents, age 55+ that will contribute to their personal growth and life satisfaction.


Goals

  1. To maintain a Community Services 55+ Committee, enabling City staff to maintain regular and open communication with Pickering's older adult population, to share information, to assess, and meet their leisure service needs.
  2. To review and investigate existing programs, implement new programs and events, and to provide high quality leisure programs at appropriate locations that meet the needs of residents 55+.
  3. To provide support to existing Pickering Seniors Clubs with their activities, communications and trips, as needed.
  4. To effectively market programs and events to Pickering residents.
  5. To review and enhance the use of existing facilities, and make recommendations to maximize the use of these facilities.
  6. To establish a new multiuse facility within the City’s downtown core, that would include facilities and programs for our target market.
  7. To establish a new multi-use facility to serve the integrated recreational needs of all residents within the community of Seaton.

As a member of this committee you would be expected to commit time to:

  • attend meetings
  • assist with programs and events planning
  • assist with communications
  • other opportunities that may arise
